Atlantic City casinos – including members from Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and all commercial properties – helped raised $315,000 as part of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)’s seventh annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk.
"We are very proud to once again join the AFSP in advancing its mission to save lives and educate the public about the importance of mental health," Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City GM Michael Sampson said.
"Supporting access to lifesaving resources and services helps build stronger, safer communities and ensures our neighbors have the support they need when they need it most."
The Out of the Darkness Community Walk helps demonstrate the industry's support for suicide prevention, education and mental health awareness, as well as raise funds for research, education and advocacy.
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City was the first operator to support the AFSP’s initiative, having originally partnered in 2018. The Atlantic City casinos were also joined by the Casino Association of New Jersey (CANJ), which works to support the AFSP’s mission.
CANJ President George Goldhoff also spoke on the initiative, having said, "We are proud to bring together our community to support the incredible work of the AFSP New Jersey Chapter.
"Every year, AFSP's efforts make a difference in the lives of so many and provide support and hope to those struggling with mental health. This tremendous participation from every Atlantic City casino demonstrates the industry's commitment to furthering this vital cause and supporting the neighborhoods closest to us."
In June, the Casinos Unite Against Hunger campaign in southern New Jersey helped raise nearly $400,000 for those struggling with food insecurity, following a Meal on a Mission event held at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City.
Developed in May 2025 with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ), the initiative has provided more than 1.2 million meals since its debut.
Meal on a Mission raised close to $120,000 for CFBNJ, including a $50,000 donation from CANJ and matching contributions from Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City in honor of its eighth anniversary.
