Kalshi has partnered with CBS News to integrate prediction market data into the broadcaster's coverage of the 2026 US midterm elections.
The agreement will see Kalshi forecasts for individual races and control of Congress used alongside CBS News reporting, polling and expert analysis. CBS News has already begun describing Kalshi as its prediction market sponsor and using its data to examine traders' expectations for the midterms.
The partnership follows Kalshi's launch of a dedicated midterm election hub in July. The platform combines prediction market forecasts with polling, fundraising information and historical election data, with market prices changing as participants trade contracts tied to electoral outcomes.
It also extends Kalshi's push into mainstream news distribution. In December 2025, the operator became CNN's official prediction market partner, giving the network access to political, news and cultural market data for use across its programming and newsroom operations.
The Associated Press subsequently agreed in March to provide Kalshi with live US election vote counts and race calls. AP said the arrangement covers national and major state elections, combining its results data with Kalshi's market-based forecasts.
The expansion comes after a 2024 federal court decision cleared the way for Kalshi to offer contracts tied to US election outcomes. Kalshi operates as a Commodity Futures Trading Commission-regulated designated contract market.
The CFTC has since increased its attention on prediction markets, issuing an enforcement advisory in February 2026 after cases involving misuse of nonpublic information and fraud on event-contract markets.
Prediction markets have also attracted scrutiny over the distinction between federally regulated event contracts and gambling products. The debate has intensified as platforms have expanded beyond politics into sports and other event categories, while state regulators and lawmakers have questioned the regulatory framework governing some contracts.
Kalshi CEO, Tarek Mansour, said the CBS arrangement will give viewers access to forecasts that "update in real-time," describing the markets as a way of aggregating participants' expectations.
Kalshi's latest media agreement follows its September partnership with Public, which introduced AI agents capable of automating trading strategies on users' behalf.
The regulatory framework around prediction markets also remains under development, with the CFTC sending two rulemaking proposals to the White House for review. The drafts seek to clarify which event contracts qualify as swaps and where the regulator would draw the boundary for casino-style gambling products.
