It currently has a Brazilian Las Vegas strategic ambition by to transform the city into a global gambling and entertainment hub, similar to the American city. This plan involves regulating and expanding physical gaming, such as video lottery terminals (VLTs) and "sports bars," to boost tourism and tax revenue.
Loterj made history in March 2026 by becoming the first betting and gaming authority in Brazil invited to join UN Tourism. This partnership aims to integrate legal gambling with sustainable tourism development, positioning Rio as a primary destination for regulated entertainment while channeling profits into social programs.
