Choplife Gaming has secured regulatory approval to operate online sports betting and casino services in Liberia, extending the pan-African operator’s licensed presence to nine countries across the continent.
The licence was granted in late January 2026 and marks the company’s entry into Liberia’s emerging digital gaming market.
With the addition of Liberia, Choplife Gaming now operates across Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Benin, The Gambia, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
The group operates under a dual-brand model. Its proprietary Chopwin brand is live in The Gambia and Sierra Leone, while Choplife Gaming represents the betPawa brand in six other African markets under licensing arrangements with pawaTech Group.
The Liberian approval extends the operator’s presence into the Mano River Union region, where it already has operations in neighbouring Sierra Leone.
Liberian players will gain access to a regulated online sportsbook and casino offering, including sports betting, slots, crash games, virtual sports and instant-win products.
The platform has been designed for mobile-first usage, with support for mobile money payments and low-data environments to ensure accessibility in bandwidth-constrained areas.
Choplife Gaming stated that it will implement responsible gaming measures and compliance frameworks aligned with Liberian regulatory requirements.
The company also indicated plans to support local engagement through training initiatives and community-focused programmes aimed at sustainable industry development.
Choplife Gaming's expansion comes as African gambling markets face evolving regulatory scrutiny. In December 2025, Eswatini lawmakers called for an immediate freeze on new gambling licences, citing regulatory gaps and concerns about underage participation.
Meanwhile, Uganda's National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board has been advancing a central electronic monitoring system to strengthen compliance oversight, and South Africa has extended public consultation on a proposed 20% online gambling tax aimed at addressing social harms while generating revenue.
