Laço Rosa, a Brazilian nonprofit dedicated to breast cancer advocacy and patient rights, began 2026 by delivering 700 free medical exams in the Federal District and surrounding satellite cities.
The screenings were carried out by the organization’s mobile unit during the week in which World Cancer Day is observed, reinforcing its focus on early diagnosis and access to care.
Brazil is often cited as having one of the highest numbers of new breast cancer cases globally. According to some metrics, such as from the World Cancer Research Fund, Brazil has ranked 4th in total new cases of breast cancer behind China, the US and India.
CEO Marcelle Medeiros highlighted that throughout 2025 the organization provided more than 3,000 free exams nationwide, strengthening initiatives around women’s health and free mammography services.
The institution works at municipal, state and federal levels to influence public policy and defend the rights of patients with breast cancer and metastatic breast cancer.
“This movement was only possible thanks to the main sponsorship of Betano and strategic partners who believe in social impact, corporate responsibility and real transformation,” said Medeiros, also thanking volunteers and the organization’s internal team for sustaining the initiative.
Laço Rosa develops a range of programs, including a Breast Cancer Policy Forum, a state-level advocacy front in Rio de Janeiro, a national patient meeting, an online wig bank, content curation initiatives and public awareness campaigns such as Pink October.
The 2026 screening campaign follows other community-oriented initiatives supported by Betano in the country, including projects aimed at women’s empowerment and social impact.
Betano recently announced leadership changes in Brazil, reinforcing its institutional and marketing operations under new appointments in both areas
