The Buenos Aires Province Lottery (IPLyC) has formalized an agreement with the Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP) to strengthen youth gambling prevention efforts through education and early detection initiatives.
The Buenos Aires Province Lottery (IPLyC) signed the agreement alongside UNLP and Fundación Nexum, incorporating the university into its responsible gambling framework.
Under the arrangement, UNLP will act as a “Network Ambassador for Responsible Gambling,” promoting awareness, supporting early detection of problematic behavior and contributing to efforts against illegal gambling platforms.
The partnership also includes the organization of an interdisciplinary conference bringing together academic, health and legal specialists to address gambling-related risks among adolescents and young adults.
According to data cited during the announcement, one in four young people between 12 and 19 years old has placed an online bet at least once, with initiation frequently occurring between ages 13 and 15, a period that coincides with increased access to digital payment tools.
Martín López Armengol, Rector of UNLP, said the 18-24 age group shows the highest prevalence rates in terms of both betting frequency and amounts wagered.
The initiative forms part of the provincial campaign “Viciar con las Apuestas #NoDa” (“Getting Hooked on Betting #NotWorthIt”), which seeks to coordinate public institutions, academia and civil society in prevention efforts.
Founded in 1905, the Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP) is one of Argentina’s largest and most prestigious public universities, with a strong research profile and more than 100,000 students across multiple academic disciplines
