A Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica 2023 seized in connection with an investigation into illegal raffle schemes in Brazil has been auctioned for BR3.05m ($601,914), as authorities continue efforts to curb betting-related financial crime.
The vehicle, previously owned by José Roberto Santos, known as “Nanan Awards”, was identified by investigators as a symbol of the alleged scheme, which involved the promotion of fraudulent prize draws through social media channels.
According to authorities, the operation centered on the use of online platforms to attract participants into unregulated raffles, with proceeds allegedly channeled through structures designed to obscure the origin of funds.
The case is another piece of a wider pattern of enforcement targeting illegal betting-adjacent activities with influencer-driven promotions in Brazil.
Recently, in a different investigation, another influencer was targeted by Brazil’s Civil Police as part of an operation which is examining the legality of online raffle schemes linked to betting-style mechanics.
Authorities carried out search and seizure measures and blocked more than BR2m in assets, while investigating whether the promotions, marketed through social media and involving paid entries for prizes, were being used for illegal gambling or financial irregularities.
Raffle-style promotions promoted by influencers remain a legal grey area in Brazil because they often sit between regulated prize draws, which require prior governmental authorizations.
Enforcement, especially from Brazil’s regulator, the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting, has increasingly focused on the intersection between digital marketing, social media influence and financial crime, particularly where such schemes mimic legitimate betting or promotional formats to gain credibility with users.
Funds from illegal betting platforms have been traced to financial entities linked to an investigation into fraud and money laundering
