Combined property to become largest integrated resort hotel on the Macau Peninsula

Hotel Lisboa and its sister casino hotel Grand Lisboa are undergoing extensive renovation works and are expected to be fully integrated into a single large-scale integrated resort on the Macau Peninsula next year, as reported by Macao Daily.

Daisy Ho, Chairman and Executive Director of SJM Holdings and Managing Director of SJM Resorts, said the two historically separate properties will be physically and operationally linked once the upgrades are completed, forming the largest integrated resort hotel on the peninsula.

At Hotel Lisboa, the first phase of renovation covers hotel rooms, food and beverage outlets and gaming areas, and is expected to be completed by the summer, subject to regulatory approval before reopening. A second phase will follow. Ho said room layouts are being redesigned to meet current market demand, including combining smaller rooms into larger units and introducing new suite formats. Although the overall room count will decline slightly, the average room size will increase.

Grand Lisboa is also undergoing internal refurbishment. Former VIP gaming areas are being converted into hotel rooms, increasing total room inventory by approximately 10%. New dining spaces are being added on the third and fifth floors to serve mass-market customers, while additional retail space will be introduced at ground level. The hotel lobby and check-in area will be relocated to the seventh floor.

A connecting tunnel between the two properties is also being upgraded and is expected to be completed next year.

Ho noted that while SJM’s market share declined in the first quarter, it has shown month-on-month improvement in April and May, reflecting strengthening competitiveness on the Macau Peninsula and reinforcing confidence in the group’s long-term strategy.
