Sportsbet has announced a leadership transition, with long-serving Chief Executive Barni Evans moving into an expanded global position within parent company Flutter.
Evans, who has led Australia’s largest corporate bookmaker since 2018, will assume the role of CEO, Flutter APAC & Emerging Markets. The appointment broadens his remit beyond Australia, overseeing operations across key regional and developing markets for the global wagering group.
Taking over as Chief Executive of Sportsbet from June 1 will be Doug Brown, a veteran of the company with 11 years’ service. Brown has held several senior leadership roles during his tenure, including Chief Operating Officer, Chief Product Officer and Chief Growth Officer.
During Evans’ leadership, Sportsbet cemented its position as the clear market leader in Australia, holding more than 45% of the online wagering market. The company experienced significant growth and expanded its customer base amid intensifying competition across the sector.
In a statement, Brown described Sportsbet as a dynamic business with strong momentum, pledging to focus on enhancing customer experience and capitalising on future opportunities. Evans said it had been a privilege to lead the company and expressed confidence in Brown’s ability to guide the next phase of growth.
Evans added that he looked forward to remaining closely connected to Sportsbet while taking on his broader regional responsibilities.
The transition comes at a time when global wagering operators continue to reshape leadership structures to align with international expansion and evolving regulatory environments.
