The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has shared its educational initiative, CoolThink@JC, with the Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS).
CoolThink@JC is a digital education programme created by the HKJC.
It was launched in 2016 and received HK$523m (US$66.75m) in funding from the HKJC Charities Trust.
The Computational Thinking Education Programme encourages children to become comfortable with technology through coding basics, which supports digital creativity, problem solving and logical thinking.
In 2023, the Education Bureau of the HKSAR Government adopted the learning materials into the wider curriculum, with over 100,000 upper primary students in publicly funded schools completing the course since then.
The programme has been adopted by several schools in China, and last year, the MoEYS signed a Memorandum of Understanding to also use CoolThink@JC as part of the school curriculum.
An official ceremony was held at the weekend in Phnom Penh to celebrate the programme officially beginning in Cambodia.
The learning materials from the CoolThink@JC programme will be introduced to 100 public schools in Cambodia by 2028, reaching around 30,000 students and 500 teachers.
Speaking at the ceremony, Jackson Woo, HKJC Charities Trust Trustee, emphasised that supporting inclusive education is one of the Club’s key priorities, “particularly as students need to be digitally equipped to navigate a rapidly changing world.”
The development also encourages collaboration between educational systems in both Hong Kong and Cambodia that can support future exchanges such as research partnerships and student exchanges.
At the most recent Global Gaming Awards Asia-Pacific 2026 Ceremony, the HKJC was awarded the Corporate Social Responsibility of the Year title.
CoolThink@JC added AI units to its curriculum in 2021, with the tasks based on MIT App Inventor AI Tools
