Uzbek authorities have warned of a growing volume of online advertising promoting betting platforms and other gambling services ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Authorities reminded that, under Article 46 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Advertising”, promoting gambling is strictly prohibited and may result in legal liability.
Officials also stressed that the use of anonymous accounts, pseudonyms and foreign digital platforms does not exempt offenders from liability. The Competition Committee monitors internet resources and social media platforms for compliance with advertising legislation.
Where violations are identified, cases are referred to the relevant authorities for enforcement action, including cyber security units within the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The announcement comes amid growing global concerns regarding the rise in illegal gambling activity linked to major sporting events.
