Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) saw its teams perform particularly well at the recent Macao International Dragon Boat Races.
This year marked the 21st consecutive year that GEG both supported and participated in the races, with seven dragon boat teams created from staff over various properties.
The Galaxy Pearl won the Macao Dragon Boat Race Standard Dragon Women's Category (500m), while the Galaxy Elegance came runner-up in the Macao Small Dragon Boat Race Women’s Category (200m).
The additional company Dragon Boat Teams were comprised of Galaxy Stars, Galaxy Universe, Galaxy Glamour, Galaxy Phoenix, and Galaxy Pioneer.
A spokesperson for the operator praised GEG team members for rallying behind the company’s athletes with “energetic cheers” that “injected vibrant enthusiasm into the event.”
Several executives from GEG were present at the event, including Philip Cheng, GEG Director; Eileen Lui, Group Director of Human Resources and Administration; Kevin Kelley, Galaxy Macau COO; Thomas Arasi, Group CFO, and more.
Similarly, in nearby Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Jockey Club took part in the annual Tai O Dragon Boat Water Parade earlier this week.
The Tai O Water Parade is a century-old tradition that is meant to purify the water and rid the area of disease by honoring local temples and parading deity images.
Outside of community events, GEG has also committed to a new initiative to support its environmental goals.
The operator has created Macau’s first Landscape Resources Upcycling Program that will transform materials such as wood and leaves that are usually by-products of building and garden maintenance into items such as guest door hangers and menus.
The Macao International Dragon Boat Races were held at Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre and co-organised by SJM Resorts
