Brazil’s Social Service of Industry (SESI) and the National Service of Industrial Learning (SENAI) launched two educational booklets addressing the risks associated with online betting.
The materials were developed to help industrial workers and students better understand the financial, emotional and social consequences of gambling, while promoting financial education and informed decision-making.
In Rio Grande do Norte, where the initiative is being coordinated by SESI-RN, regional Superintendent Danielle Mafra said digital betting has become a growing challenge for workers and their families.
“When an industrial worker compromises their income through betting, the impacts go far beyond the household budget, reaching the factory floor by affecting safety, productivity and the wellbeing of the entire team,” Mafra said.
According to SESI, the rapid expansion of betting platforms, combined with easy account registration, promotional bonuses and constant accessibility through mobile devices, has increased the likelihood of impulsive behaviour and financial losses.
The organization said financial education and emotional awareness are essential tools for preventing gambling-related harm.
The booklet aimed at industrial workers discusses the effects of betting on workplace performance, family relationships and personal finances, while encouraging healthier financial habits.
Meanwhile, the student-focused publication adopts a more accessible language, exploring topics such as decision-making, the mechanics behind betting products, emotional impacts and the importance of financial literacy among young people.
Recently, Brazil’s Federal Government also launched a WhatsApp campaign designed to inform bettors about self-exclusion tools, treatment resources and responsible gambling support.
“SESI proudly assumes the educational role of bringing these booklets to industries and schools in our state because financial education and emotional awareness are irreplaceable pillars for a more dignified, secure, and fulfilling life,” concluded Mafra.
SESI and SENAI are two of the main institutions within Brazil’s Sistema S network, providing vocational training, education, healthcare and workforce development services across the country’s industrial sector
