The municipality of Alta Gracia and Cordoba’s provincial gaming authority, Lotería de Córdoba, have signed a cooperation agreement to preserve the old Casino.
The building is considered part of the city’s cultural and architectural heritage. Under the deal, Lotería de Córdoba will provide funding for materials and labor while the municipality carries out the physical works and prepares a broader plan to eventually repurpose the site.
The agreement establishes a joint working framework between the two institutions to carry out remediation, preventive maintenance and structural conservation, with the stated aim of halting the building's deterioration and creating the technical conditions for its future reuse.
A joint management unit made up of representatives from both institutions will oversee the work in line with existing conservation regulations.
The first phase of operational tasks includes a full cleanup of the building, removal of debris and structurally hazardous elements, and construction of a perimeter fence to prevent unauthorized access.
Crews will also shore up the most compromised sections of the structure and carry out controlled demolition of elements at imminent risk of collapse, while preserving components considered historically valuable.
The historic casino building forms part of the Sierras Hotel complex, which opened in 1908 as Argentina's first casino hotel. The structure has not been used for gaming operations for years.
In March, Alta Gracia's acting mayor, Jorge De Nápoli, told the municipal legislature that restoration work had already been awarded and was ready to begin, outlining plans to reintegrate the building into the city's tourism and cultural circuit.
