The Greek Gaming Commission (EEEP) is preparing a proposal that would allow live casino studios to operate within the country, potentially opening a new segment of the regulated iGaming market.
The issue has been under discussion for several years, with licensed online casino operators currently offering live casino products through studios located abroad, primarily in Malta, Romania and Latvia.
Under the proposed framework, Greece would allow the establishment of dedicated live casino facilities, which typically operate as broadcast studios or casino-based environments featuring real tables, professional dealers and multiple cameras streaming games to online players through licensed platforms.
According to the 2025 progress report published by the EEEP, such facilities could generate high-value investments, create jobs and strengthen the competitiveness of the Greek iGaming sector.
The report also highlighted gambling participation trends in Greece, with more than half of the population taking part in gambling activities in 2025 based on a survey of 2,001 adults.
Financial gain remains the main motivation among gamblers, cited by 51% of respondents. Meanwhile, 73% of non-gamblers viewed gambling as a waste of time or money.
Participation rates were highest among adults aged 18-34, with 58% reporting gambling activity. In terms of spending, 57% of players reported monthly expenditure of up to €40, while 6% spent more than €300 per month.
The potential introduction of live casino studios forms part of Greece’s wider efforts to develop its regulated online gambling market and expand the range of locally supported gaming activities.
The EEEP recently announced that the online gambling market recorded 19% year-on-year growth in Q1 2026
