iM Securities CEO Park Tae-dong has joined a relay campaign designed to increase public awareness of illegal gambling among young people in South Korea.
The initiative, organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, involves companies, financial institutions and public organizations sharing the message that "illegal online gambling targeting youth is a crime you can never win."
Each participant also nominates another individual to continue the campaign, with the broader aim of building public consensus around protecting young people from exposure to illegal gambling.
Park joined after being nominated by Daishin Securities CEO Jin Seung-wook. Following his participation, he selected LS Securities CEO Hong Won-sik to take part next.
Park described illegal gambling among young people as a serious social issue that could contribute to further criminal activity later in life. He said he hoped the campaign would increase awareness and help create a healthier environment for young people.
The initiative comes as South Korean authorities pursue several parallel efforts to address rising concerns surrounding youth cyber gambling.
Last week, professional esports player Lee Sang-hyeok, better known as Faker, was appointed an honorary police officer and ambassador for the Korean National Police Agency's youth cyber gambling prevention campaign.
Faker is supporting promotional activities around a separate voluntary reporting program that began on May 18 and will continue through Aug 31.
Under that initiative, teenagers who voluntarily disclose their involvement in cyber gambling can receive counseling from school police officers and gambling prevention specialists.
Park was nominated by Daishin Securities CEO Jin Seung-wook and selected LS Securities CEO Hong Won-sik as the campaign's next participant
