The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has voted unanimously to renew the operating licenses of MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Hollywood Casino at Greektown, as each continues to “meet the high bar” of state regulators.
Prior to the renewal vote, the MGCB conducted a full review of each casino property’s financial standing, operational practices and adherence to responsible gambling requirements included within the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act.
“Year after year, these renewals show that Detroit’s casinos continue to meet the high bar Michigan sets for operating with integrity,” MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams said.
“As the industry continues to evolve, our focus remains the same – protecting patrons, supporting responsible gaming and making sure this remains an industry Michigan can be proud of.”
Despite the renewal having been finalized during the MGCB’s public board meeting on September 9, operating licenses in Michigan are reviewed on an annual basis – meaning each of the properties will undergo the same process in September 2027.
For more digitally-focused regulatory news in Michigan, Robinhood Markets formed an agreement with the MGCB to pull its sports-related event contracts until litigation regarding prediction markets legality across the state has been decided upon.
Robinhood will close out any remaining customer positions by October 9 following the court-approved agreement, becoming the second operator after Kalshi to officially withdraw sports-related event contracts from Michigan.
Currently – Robinhood, Coinbase and Kalshi are awaiting rulings from the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, while Attorney General Dana Nessel was recently granted a second preliminary injunction against Kalshi to forbid sports-related event contract trading.
The agreement runs until a final verdict is issued by the Sixth Circuit Court, although Robinhood will continue offering Michigan residents access to its broader prediction markets hub.
In August, the Michigan Lottery chose to extend its partnership agreement with Instant Win Gaming through July 2032, as the supplier will continue to provide its portfolio of eInstant titles
