Brazil’s Attorney General’s Office (AGU) has requested information about Polymarket’s activity in the country
This comes after a national report found the prediction market platform promoting markets on Brazilian elections despite an existing block. AGU questioned the Ministry of Finance on the platform’s activity.
The AGU has given the Finance Ministry’s Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) five days to provide information on any supervisory or sanctioning proceedings involving Polymarket, its subsidiaries, partners and operators in Brazil.
The request also covers administrative orders to notify, suspend or block the platform and related profiles or domains through Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) or directly through digital platforms and service providers.
The AGU is seeking to determine whether Polymarket is disobeying the blocking order and violating electoral rules prohibiting digital platforms from offering or promising goods, products or advertising linked to candidates or election results.
Brazil blocked access to prediction market platforms including Polymarket and Kalshi in April 2026, as regulators moved to prevent what officials described as an unregulated betting market from expanding in the country. Kalshi has stated the company that seeks to reverse the block.
Despite the restrictions, Polymarket has continued hosting election-related markets from servers outside Brazil. The platform may remain accessible to some users through VPNs, while a national report found that the website could be accessed in some states with limited functionality, including displaying percentages without allowing bets.
The platform’s Portuguese-language social media account has also promoted its services while publishing content about the standing of candidate Flávio Bolsonaro among bettors.
The Finance Ministry added that Polymarket remains blocked in Brazil, along with social media accounts linked to the platform.
