More than 1,000 grassroots clubs have applied for Flutter's £500,000 Cash4Clubs fund ahead of the 8 December deadline
Over half of applications come from groups supporting adults experiencing poverty, mental health challenges or social isolation
Funding will support equipment, facilities, staffing and programmes that promote adult participation in community sport

Flutter Entertainment has reported a surge in demand for its 2025 Cash4Clubs programme, with more than 1,000 grassroots sports organisations applying for financial support.

The £500,000 ($663,000) fund - delivered in partnership with Sported - offers 250 grants of £2,000 to community groups promoting adult participation in physical activity.

With the application window closing on 8 December, Flutter confirmed that 1,082 clubs had already submitted requests, the highest volume since the scheme launched over 15 years ago.

The programme was promoted earlier in the autumn with support from former football stars Alan Shearer and Peter Crouch, who encouraged local clubs to seek funding for equipment, coaching, staffing and operational costs.

Commenting on the response, Flutter UKI CEO Kevin Harrington stated: "The response to this year's Cash4Clubs programme has been overwhelming. We already have more applications than we can fund, which really shows the level of need for initiatives like Flutter's Cash4Clubs in supporting the health and wellbeing of adults. It's vital that we continue to help these small organisations continue to survive and thrive."

The response reflects the financial strain facing grassroots organisations across the UK and Ireland. Recent studies indicate that 40% of adult sports clubs have been forced to scale back activities due to rising costs, while around one quarter are unsure if they can remain sustainable without external funding.

Application trends show that 52% of entries come from groups supporting adults affected by poverty or mental health challenges. A significant proportion also focuses on reducing loneliness among older participants. England accounts for nearly three-quarters of applications, with notable concentrations in the North West, Yorkshire and Humber, London and the West Midlands.

Past recipients include inclusive and disability-focused clubs such as Village Manchester Football Club, which used its 2025 grant to offset player fees and essential facility costs.

Successful applicants will be notified in early January.

The Cash4Clubs announcement follows recent corporate developments at Flutter. The company's Q3 2025 results showed total revenue of $3.8bn, a 17% year-over-year increase, despite reporting a net loss of $789m. Additionally, Francesco Durante announced his departure as Flutter's Southern Europe and Africa CEO, effective 31 January 2026, with current CFO Roberto Di Fonzo set to assume the role.
