Sunland Park Casino in New Mexico has completed a $2m renovation, introducing new gaming options and an updated layout as the property continues its transformation under new ownership.
The improvements follow the casino's acquisition by Grant Lincoln in October 2025, ending decades of ownership by the Fulton family.
Renovation work began in March and took approximately four months, covering the property's 23,000-square-foot gaming floor. Updates included new carpeting, repainted interiors and the removal of a wall separating the former high-limit gaming area.
The redesign reduced gaming positions from 798 to approximately 680, creating wider aisles and additional space between machines.
Despite the reduction, the casino has introduced approximately 300 new games since the ownership change, including Dragon Link, Lightning Link and Phoenix Link.
A major addition is the Stadium electronic gaming area, which allows customers to play blackjack, roulette, baccarat and craps in a shared seating environment.
According to Operations Manager Frank Heinrich, the Stadium features a graphics package available at only one other venue in the country.
The casino remained operational throughout the renovation, with work divided into 10 sections completed over consecutive weeks to minimize disruption to customers.
Beyond gaming, Sunland Park is preparing to introduce Legends, a restaurant and bar connected directly to the casino floor.
The renovation also complements the property's existing horse racing operations, live entertainment and year-round simulcast wagering.
While the changes introduce additional gaming and dining options, the casino has also sought to retain familiar games for regular customers, with some existing machines relocated rather than removed.
The investment represents a further step in updating the long-established property while maintaining its combination of casino gaming, horse racing and hospitality services.
Sunland Park opened as a racetrack in 1959 before adding casino gaming in 1999
