Flamengo, Fluminense and São Paulo displayed protest messages or alternative branding after the ban removed betting sponsors from their shirts
Clubs are turning to retailers, financial companies and membership programmes to fill vacant spaces
At least 23 Brazilian clubs have sought to challenge the government’s restrictions before the Supreme Federal Court

The clubs are preparing another round of demonstrations in favor of the betting sector in the Brazilian Championship.

Brazilian football clubs are finding different ways to fill the sponsorship spaces left vacant by the country’s betting advertising ban, with some displaying protest messages while others promote alternative brands and membership programmes.

A national survey found Flamengo, Fluminense and São Paulo were among the clubs that responded most visibly to the restrictions, which prohibit advertising and sponsorship related to fixed-odds betting.

The phrases will point to the campaign "I bet you didn't know," a website filled with industry information about the positive aspects of the regulated market.

Flamengo and Fluminense displayed the slogan “Prohibiting isn’t protecting” during a previous derby. The campaign was organised by the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL) and the Brazilian Institute for Responsible Gaming (IBJR), with the clubs’ main sponsors, Betano and Superbet, reportedly initiating the action.

The slogan also appeared on advertising boards at nine other league matches. São Paulo and Fluminense replaced Superbet branding with Superscore, a sports statistics platform linked to the Superbet group.

Other clubs opted for commercial alternatives. Corinthians brought in Shopee as main shirt sponsor for the rest of the 2026 Brazilian Championship, while Santos will display Agibank until season’s end. Botafogo, Vasco and Athletico-PR have used the space to promote membership programmes.

However, seven clubs, Bahia, Chapecoense, Cruzeiro, Grêmio, Vitória, Palmeiras and Atlético-MG, remain without a main shirt sponsor.

At least 23 clubs have sought to join Supreme Federal Court (STF) proceedings and the provisional measure still needs congressional review.
