The Australian Turf Club (ATC) has paid tribute to NSW Minister for Racing David Harris, after he announced he will not contest the next state election in March 2027.
ATC CEO Steve McMahon highlighted Harris' support for thoroughbred racing and his recognition of the industry's contribution to employment, communities and the wider NSW economy.
Harris has regularly attended racecourses and major racing events during his tenure, while the ATC said cooperation between government and industry had remained important to investment and the long-term development of racing across the state.
McMahon said the club intends to continue working with the NSW Government on major events, racing and investment in racecourse infrastructure following Harris' eventual departure.
The announcement comes during a period of leadership transition across the state's racing industry.
Last month, Graeme Hinton was appointed CEO of Racing NSW following a unanimous board decision. He will formally take up the position on 1 December, succeeding Peter V'landys, who is leaving the role after 22 years.
Hinton joined Racing NSW in 2012 and became Chief Operating Officer in 2016. His responsibilities have included wagering, broadcast and digital rights, integrity, equine welfare, prizemoney, industry funding and Racing NSW's relationship with Tabcorp.
He has also been involved in initiatives including the launch of The Everest and expansion of the NSW Spring Carnival, while representing Racing NSW in government discussions on gambling policy and regulation.
The ATC previously welcomed Hinton's appointment, highlighting his experience across wagering and the wider thoroughbred racing sector.
Hinton will formally become Racing NSW CEO on 1 December
