Veikkaus is implementing significant organisational and leadership adjustments as the company prepares for an evolving regulatory environment.
Beginning 1 January 2026, Deputy CEO Velipekka Nummikoski will leave the Executive Team and transition into project-focused duties within CEO Olli Sarekoski's executive office. The company will not appoint a new Deputy CEO at this time.
The update also comes in a year marked by notable industry appointments, including Passport Technology naming Chad Boynak as CEO, Zitro bringing in Eugenio Javier Gómez for institutional relations and FanDuel adding Keith Whyte as a responsible-gaming advisor.
Responsibility for public affairs will be transferred to Director Tuomo Puumala, who will incorporate the area into his existing portfolio, which includes data, AI, customer service and corporate responsibility.
CEO Sarekoski expressed appreciation for Nummikoski's long-standing contribution, noting his essential role in shaping Finland's gambling legislation and supporting the development of the country's gaming ecosystem.
These discussions, prompted by preparations for Finland's partially liberalised gambling model launching in 2027, resulted in the closure of 26 roles and the creation of 22 new positions. Additionally, 20 employment relationships were adjusted to align with evolving business requirements.
This latest set of leadership and organisational changes follows Veikkaus' recent decision to reinstate floorball betting after a major disciplinary review confirmed no evidence of match manipulation.
Reija Laaksonen People, Brand & Communications EVP, stated: "Our strategic direction requires changes from us, which have now been implemented through these negotiations.
"These decisions are always difficult from a human perspective but they are necessary for Veikkaus' future competitiveness."
Alongside the executive changes, Veikkaus has concluded its autumn 2025 change negotiations involving 75 employees across three functions
