There was around 5.9% growth in the company’s online segment

Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz has followed up hugely positive revenue figures for 2024 with a slightly more consolidatory 2025.

Revenue was down by around 2.8% from 2024's €436m ($510m) according to the latest full-year results, but the figure of €424m was still the second-highest annual revenue posting since 2008, so the German lottery hasn’t lost too much ground.

Jürgen Häfner has stressed his satisfaction with the slight flattening, pointing out that: “In 2024, we had the highest annual revenue in 17 years, with multi-week high jackpot phases in the EUROJACKPOT lottery. It's understandable that the revenue curve, which has been steadily rising for years, took a slight breather last year.

There were also significant investment made last year that ought to be considered when evaluating the overall success of the year.

Two major projects are nearing completion according to the recent announcement, and any fruits of those efforts will only be seen in future results.

One of these projects is an endeavour to equip all 870 retail outlets with new terminals.

On this mission, Häfner added: “With this investment of around €7m, we are making our lottery outlets fit for the future in terms of innovation, service and customer friendliness.”

The other development is designed to improve cost efficiency and that is the installation of a large solar power system in the car park of the company’s Koblenz headquarters.

Revenue fluctuation in lotteries is clearly affected by the amount won by players, though in this case, the total sales figure of €167m matches up to the revenue diminishment and represents a 2.9% year-on-year decrease.

Where there was growth was in the ‘Bingo!’ lottery, which experienced an increase of total stake of around €3.2m.

While the majority of stakes were placed in the retail outlets, online stakes increased by just under 5.9% with 182,000 customers now registered to play online.

The lottery company is remaining outwardly phlegmatic about the stagnation in view of the bigger picture, but it will certainly be hoping for a return to growth in 2026.
