The 2026 season of the Brasileirão Betano began on Wednesday with an eventful opening round marked by late comebacks and strong performances from both home teams and travelling sides.
Across eight matches played so far, the league recorded an average of close to three goals per game, setting an early tone for an open and competitive campaign.
The highest-scoring fixture of the round took place at Arena Condá, where newly promoted Chapecoense defeated Santos 4–2 in a match that featured multiple momentum swings. After taking an early lead and then falling behind, Chapecoense responded in front of their home supporters to secure their first points following a return to Serie A.
Comebacks were a recurring theme on opening night. São Paulo overturned a deficit to beat Flamengo 2–1 at Morumbi, while Bahia also recovered from an early goal to claim a 2–1 away victory over Corinthians. Vitória, returning to the top flight, made a positive start at home with a 2–0 win against Remo, who are back in the Brasileirão after a 32-year absence.
Away sides also made their presence felt elsewhere. Athletico-PR and Red Bull Bragantino both secured 1–0 victories on the road against Internacional and Coritiba, respectively.
The only draw of the round came in Belo Horizonte, where Atlético-MG and Palmeiras shared a 2–2 result. The match featured lead changes and a late equaliser.
The championship's title sponsor, Betano, has been expanding its presence across Brazilian sports and entertainment. The operator recently conducted its first responsible gambling activation on Big Brother Brasil 26, and renewed its sponsorship of the Campeonato Paulista for 2026, continuing a strategy that has seen betting operators invest heavily in visibility as Brazil's regulated market matures following its first full year under formal oversight.
The Brasileirão Serie A has carried the Betano naming rights since 2024
