The Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA) has contacted several licensed online sports betting providers regarding the presentation of their “early payout” feature, citing concerns over incomplete and potentially misleading information.
The early payout option allows players to have a bet settled as a win before a match has concluded, typically when their selected team takes a two-goal lead. However, the feature does not apply to draw bets, as neither team holds a lead in that scenario. According to the regulator, some operators did not make this limitation sufficiently clear at the point of placing a bet.
KSA found that while providers’ terms and conditions stated that early payout was not available for draw outcomes, this restriction was not always communicated clearly within the betting interface itself.
In some cases, lower odds were promoted for draw bets under the early payout banner, creating the impression that the feature applied equally to those markets. The regulator concluded that this could lead to confusion among players.
Under Dutch gambling legislation, operators are required to provide clear and understandable information about betting products, including possible outcomes and associated conditions. KSA determined that the communication around early payout features did not fully meet this obligation.
Operators offering the feature have now been approached by the regulator and have taken steps to improve transparency. KSA said information has been clarified to ensure players are better informed about the limitations of early payout, particularly in relation to draw bets.
The action forms part of a broader period of regulatory activity by KSA. In recent weeks, the authority has also instructed operators to withdraw their "Share your bet" tools over advertising compliance concerns, strengthened cooperation with sports bodies on sponsorship restrictions, and announced the appointment of Carol Verheij as incoming Vice-Chair of its Board of Directors.
The early payout feature typically allows settlement when a team goes two goals ahead, even if the final result changes later in the match
