The Oregon Lottery and Council on Problem Gambling (OCPG) have both confirmed its participation in Problem Gambling Awareness Month during March 2026, working with local and national partners to inform residents of prevention, treatment and recovery services.

The theme for Problem Gambling Awareness Month 2026 is "Caring Communities, Stronger Futures,” which is said to reinforce the collective responsibility for preventing gambling-related harm and a community-driven approach to support.

“We really connected to this year's theme,” Oregon Lottery Safer Play Program Leader Stacy Shaw said.

"We see our biggest impacts when we collaborate broadly to reach our players and develop resources and tools for Oregonians impacted by gambling issues.”

The Oregon Gambling Research Center recently completed a study which highlighted the “important role” communities play in supporting residents, serving as a division of the OCPG.

“Problem Gambling Awareness Month reminds us that gambling-related harm affects individuals, families and communities, and that prevention and support are critical to recovery and healing,” OCPG Executive Director Glenn Yamagata said.

"Our research shows the importance of strengthening these community pathways to reduce harm and create meaningful, lasting change.”

Beginning in 1992, 1% of revenue generated by the Oregon Lottery has gone toward funding problem gambling treatment and prevention efforts across the state, totaling more than $155m.

On February 17, the World Lottery Association (WLA) granted the Oregon Lottery level four certification under its Responsible Gambling and Safer Play program, representing the third consecutive period in which the operator has achieved the highest level of certification.

The WLA’s Responsible Gaming Principles and Framework evaluates operators on principles such as research, employee training, retailer programs, game design and treatment referral.

The certification process includes a “comprehensive evaluation” of a lottery operator’s policies, procedures and programs by independent WLA assessors, as the Association currently represents over 150 state-authorized lotteries worldwide.
