Brazilian authorities have launched an investigation into Pix das Estrelas, a company previously linked to football sponsorships, over allegations of operating illegal raffle schemes with characteristics similar to betting products.
The operation, named “Falling Star,” was carried out by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Rio Grande do Sul through its anti-organized crime unit (GAECO).
Search and seizure warrants were executed in municipalities across São Paulo as part of efforts to gather evidence related to the company’s activities.
According to investigators, the operation centres on the promotion of “electronic raffles,” in which participants purchase entries disguised as products such as quotas or digital content.
These campaigns allegedly offered cash prizes and goods while lacking proper legal authorization.
Authorities claim the company used partnerships with football clubs, including Grêmio and Avaí, to increase visibility and create an impression of legitimacy.
Prosecutors stated that branding agreements and associations with clubs and fan groups were used strategically to expand reach and reinforce credibility among consumers.
The investigation also points to the use of a network of third-party service providers across technology, marketing and payment processing.
These structures are being examined as part of a suspected attempt to fragment financial flows and potentially facilitate money laundering.
Materials seized during the operation include electronic devices, financial records and contractual documents. These are expected to support ongoing efforts to map the flow of funds and identify any additional parties involved in the alleged scheme.
It also raises questions around due diligence in sponsorship agreements within football, as clubs continue to engage with the betting sector during a period of national regulatory tightening.
Grêmio is currently negotiating a new main sponsor deal, with expectations of announcing a replacement partner by April 2026
