Okada Manila has hosted the 4th Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) 2025, becoming the first private institution selected by the Office of Civil Defense - National Capital Region (OCD-NCR) to lead the exercise.
The drill, held on November 6 in observance of World Tsunami Awareness Day, formed part of the Philippines' ongoing efforts to strengthen disaster readiness across high-risk urban areas.
With support from the Parañaque City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), the integrated resort coordinated a comprehensive simulation based on a magnitude 8.3 earthquake generated by the Manila Trench, followed by a mock tsunami warning.
The scenario tested Okada Manila's emergency preparedness across multiple operational zones, including evacuation procedures, medical response, communication systems and fire-suppression protocols.
Emergency teams deployed throughout the property activated command posts and executed drills involving security personnel, frontline staff and crisis-response units.
According to the resort, the exercise was designed to evaluate real-time coordination, decision-making, and the ability of teams to manage simultaneous incidents during large-scale emergencies.
Beyond regulatory compliance, Okada Manila said the drill reflects an organizational commitment to maintaining a safety-focused culture within one of the country's largest tourism and entertainment complexes.
The initiative also reinforces industry expectations for integrated resorts to uphold rigorous disaster-preparedness standards given their operational scale and visitor volume.
Patrick Henry Villacorte, Chief Security and Safety Officer at Okada Manila, said: "Exercises like this remind us that preparedness is not a one-time effort. It's a continuous commitment... Every drill helps us strengthen our coordination and ensure the safety of our team members and guests."
The resort noted that it will continue conducting internal and external simulations throughout 2026 in coordination with civic agencies as part of its long-term resilience strategy.
In October 2025, International Entertainment Corporation expanded its junket operations in Manila while redeveloping the New Coast Hotel & Casino, underscoring ongoing investment and operational shifts across the Philippine gaming sector.
The event aligns with Okada Manila's "Okada Green Heart" program, which includes team-member safety and community engagement initiatives
