The Anjouan Gaming Authority has published a statement addressing public commentary on its operations.

The spokesperson said: “We welcome informed industry discussion.

"Licensing, regulatory standards, market access, player protection, AML, technical compliance, and responsible gaming obligations should be discussed seriously.”

The Authority explained that its licences are issued under the framework of the island.

The post continued: “An Anjouan Internet Gaming Licence is not, and has never been presented as, a universal authorisation to operate in every country in the world.

“No licensing authority can exempt an operator from local law in jurisdictions where local authorisation is required.”

As a regulator, Anjouan has frequently been associated with black-market operators and bad actors within the industry.

However, much like Curaçao’s gambling licence, a vast majority of players do not understand the difference between online casinos licensed by a local regulator or a regulator from elsewhere.

The post addressed this directly: “Constructive criticism and comparative analysis between licensing jurisdictions are welcome.

“Different operators will have different regulatory needs depending on their business model, markets, risk profile, payment relationships, suppliers, and long-term strategy.

“What is not helpful to the industry is commentary that conflates offshore licensing with local market authorisation, treats operator misconduct as proof against an entire framework, or makes broad allegations without reference to the applicable legal framework, licence conditions, public register, verification tools, or compliance obligations.”

The Cyprus Gaming and Casino Supervision Authority (APEK), another regulator, recently presented its institutional report for the 2024–2025 period, highlighting progress in regulatory oversight, player protection and international cooperation within the gambling sector.

This marks the second post made to the Anjouan Gaming LinkedIn page this week, with another being made only two days ago.

The earlier post featured a checklist of Anjouan achievements, including an active and growing licencee base, before noting that “Jurisdictional credibility is earned, not announced.”
