The gambling scandal within professional Turkish football seems to be more severe each passing day, with reports now that 25 players from the Super Lig have been temporarily suspended pending further investigation.
On top of this enforcement at the highest level of Turkish domestic football, an additional 77 players have been suspended from the second-tier division.
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) previously announced that 1,024 players were being suspended overall as part of the alleged illegal gambling probe, with it being confirmed at the time that this number included players from Galatasaray and Besiktas.
It has now come to light that Galatasaray players Eren Elmali and Metehan Baltaci are indeed part of the 102 following rumors to that effect.
Baltaci has been suspended for nine months, ending his season early, while Elmali faces 45 days on the sidelines.
Elmali had just recently been called up to the Turkish national team for the team's upcoming World Cup Qualifiers - he has since been forced to pull out.
The scale of the illicit activities in Turkish football is still emerging, but it is known that the TFF also suspended 149 referees and officials for their alleged involvement in any wrongdoing.
Those suspensions range in length from between eight and 12 months.
Ahead of his confirmed inclusion in the list of suspected participants in illegal gambling, Elmali defended himself via his Instagram account, saying: "I want to make it clear that my name is included in this file because of a betting transaction made about five years ago involving someone other than my own team. Since then, I have neither bet nor had any connection to this matter."
Corendon Alanyaspor is the top-flight team with the most suspensions - four players have been implicated and banned for a combined 18 months
