Australia joins around 50 countries where the game's casino betting functions are blocked
The change comes amid tighter Australian rules surrounding simulated gambling and age-restricted online content

Rockstar Games has disabled GTA Online's in-game gambling features for Australian players, adding the country to a list of around 50 jurisdictions where Diamond Casino betting is unavailable.

The restriction affects blackjack, roulette, three-card poker, slot machines and the Inside Track horse racing game. Players are also unable to use the Lucky Wheel, despite the feature being free to spin.

However, the Diamond Casino itself remains accessible. Australian players can enter the property, purchase chips and continue playing casino-related story missions.

The change is notable because GTA Online's casino features had operated in Australia since the Diamond Casino & Resort update launched in July 2019. Rockstar has not provided an explanation for why access has been removed seven years later.

Australia now joins markets including South Korea, China, Portugal, Poland, Greece, Malta, South Africa and Argentina where GTA Online gambling features are restricted.

The timing follows several changes to Australia's rules surrounding gambling-like content in video games.

Since September 2024, games containing simulated gambling have been subject to a mandatory R18+ minimum classification. Age-Restricted Material Codes introduced under the Online Safety Act also came into effect in March 2026, with simulated gambling among the content categories covered by measures intended to protect minors.

However, GTA Online was already rated R18+ in Australia, leaving the specific reason for Rockstar's latest action unclear.

Australia's Interactive Gambling Act also prohibits certain real-money online casino services. GTA Online's casino differs from these products because winnings cannot be converted into real-world money, while currency purchased with real money cannot be used to buy casino chips.

Without clarification from Rockstar, it remains uncertain whether the restriction is permanent or connected to wider compliance and age-verification changes.
