Phil Walker has been announced as Allwyn UK’s new Interim CEO, stepping in on 7 September
He is set to take over from Andria Vidler, who moves on after three years
Walker’s digital and commercial expertise will be utilised to help modernise the UK National Lottery in the interim period

Allwyn UK has announced the appointment of Phil Walker as its new Interim CEO, with Andria Vidler moving on from the position following a "mutual agreement" between herself and the Board.

Indeed, this announcement comes almost exactly three years after Vidler’s appointment in 2023. During that time, she has helped steer the operator through its UK National Lottery takeover transition, overseeing significant technology overhauls alongside the introduction of  New Lotto and Powerball, as well as delivering one million new active digital players. She will remain at Allwyn UK in an advisory capacity until the end of October to assist with the transition.

Now, however, Walker is set to assume operational control of the UK National Lottery operator, utilising his vast executive background in the industry – which includes senior stints at Ladbrokes Coral, William Hill and 888 – to provide a “steady pair of hands” as the operator seeks to further modernise its UK National Lottery operations.

The anticipated length of this interim period, or who may take over the role permanently, remains unspecified. However, Walker is expected to deliver incremental improvements outlined by the Board during his interim tenure.

Speaking on his appointment, Walker outlined: “I am excited and proud to be taking up the baton from Andria and joining such a vital national institution at this important stage of its growth journey. As a long-standing National Lottery player, I know first-hand the difference it makes to communities across the UK and this is a huge part of what attracted me to the role.  It will be a real honour to help build on the progress already made.”

Also commenting on her tenure was Vidler, who stated: “It has been a huge privilege to lead Allwyn UK through such an important period for The National Lottery. The last three years have required enormous focus and commitment from colleagues right across the business, and I am proud of what we have delivered together. Above all, I am proud that this work has helped strengthen The National Lottery’s ability to raise vital funds for Good Causes across the UK.

“But transforming The National Lottery is a marathon, not a sprint, and with the major transition now complete, and The National Lottery in a stronger position to keep delivering for the nation, this feels like the right moment for me to pass on the baton. I wish everyone at Allwyn the very best for the future – and look forward to becoming a player again myself.”

This latest executive shift in Allwyn’s UK operations closely follows the appointment of Khalid Reede Jones as the CEO of Allwyn North America in June.
