According to a report from Globo, football clubs in Brazil's Serie A division draw an average of roughly 7% of revenue from betting sponsorships, with no single deal exceeding 13% of any club's budget.
Several Brazilian football clubs issued a joint statement warning of a possible "end of Brazilian football" over the Federal Government's consideration of a provisional measure banning online casino products, arguing betting operators, now the sport's leading sponsors, might need to revise contracts if their revenue falls.
Still, a Globo analysis of the data suggests the sector's actual financial weight on clubs is more modest than the warning implied.
13 of the Série A's 20 clubs feature betting brands as main jersey sponsors
Even though the combined investment reaches roughly BR1.1bn in 2026, matching last season's total, no single betting sponsorship accounts for more than 13% of any club's budget, and Série A clubs collectively draw only about 7% of revenue from betting deals.
Flamengo shows the highest reliance at 12.85%, despite holding both Brazilian football's largest-ever sponsorship deal, Betano's BR268.5m annual payment, and the country's highest-ever club revenue, at BR2.08bn gross in 2025. Corinthians (10.6%) and São Paulo (10.5%) are the only other clubs above 10%.
São Paulo's deal with Superbet is worth BR113m annually, while Corinthians receives BR103m from Esportes da Sorte.
Figures challenge Brazilian football club narrative
Outside Flamengo, Corinthians and São Paulo, no Série A club's betting contract exceeded 8% of gross revenue in 2025.
Palmeiras, despite earning BR100m annually from Sportingbet, sees dependency drop to just 5.6%, reflecting the club's own high gross revenue of BR1.78bn, the second-highest in Brazilian football in 2025.
Several clubs, including Bahia, Grêmio and Internacional, have already lost betting sponsorship revenue after ending deals with previous main sponsors.
Among clubs with betting sponsorship deals, Botafogo (3.8%) and Remo (3.6%) currently show the lowest financial dependency
