Merkur Group has completed the rollout of a new cashless gaming solution at Merkur Spielbank Wolfsburg, marking another stage in the ongoing modernisation of its casino operations in Lower Saxony.
The deployment follows Merkur’s acquisition of the regional casino licences and forms part of a broader effort to establish a unified, future-oriented systems landscape across its ten venues in the state.
At Wolfsburg, the solution integrates Merkur’s in-house StepPlay casino software with Novovision, Novomatic’s casino management system.
The Wolfsburg property, located near the Autostadt, operates around 100 gaming devices, including slot machines, multi-roulette, jackpot systems and titles from Merkur, Novomatic and third-party suppliers.
As part of the upgrade, all machines were retrofitted with Novovision Player Terminal Modules and connected to the Novovision CMS, alongside the venue’s jackpot infrastructure.
Under the new setup, device and jackpot management, cashless transactions at machines and real-time accounting of gaming turnover are centrally handled and linked to StepPlay through standardised interfaces.
Merkur said the combined architecture has been designed to align with the regulatory requirements of the German casino market while enabling centralised oversight and reporting.
The full implementation, including installation, system integration and commissioning, was completed within three days. Merkur confirmed that the same solution will be rolled out across its remaining Lower Saxony casinos over the course of the year.
Once completed, approximately 1,200 gaming machines across ten venues will operate within the new system architecture.
Jens Einhaus, Head of Sales and Product Marketing NBS at Novomatic AG, said: “With the successful coupling of Novovision and StepPlay, we have implemented a state-of-the-art system solution that sustainably simplifies processes in day-to-day operations while meeting the highest regulatory requirements.”
David Schnabel, CEO of Merkur Casinos within the Merkur Group, added: “The renewal of the systems in the casinos in Lower Saxony was a central commitment made during the tender process. The introduction of this cashless gaming solution represents an important step in the long-term development of our locations.”
The Lower Saxony rollout follows Merkur Group’s acquisition of a strategic stake in Slovenian ETG supplier Spintec, strengthening a partnership that began in 2019.
The deal expanded Merkur’s access to Spintec’s electronic table game portfolio and supported wider European and international growth initiatives.
Merkur Group has been steadily expanding its technology and content partnerships across regulated markets, including recent integrations involving slot and ETG products delivered through third-party aggregation platforms
