Colombia's gaming regulator Coljuegos and Casino Buenos Aires used International Responsible Gambling Day on February 17 to highlight progress in player protection frameworks.
Coljuegos published an update on measures implemented under a resolution issued in October 2024, which strengthened responsible gambling obligations for licensed operators. As part of its “Toma el control, juega a la fija” (Take control, play it safe) campaign, the regulator reported 37,283 visits to its dedicated microsite in 2025, primarily from Bogotá, Antioquia and Valle del Cauca.
The Risk Factor Identification Test promoted through the platform has been completed 2,909 times. According to Coljuegos, 75% of respondents identified as male, 24% as female and 1% as having a diverse gender identity.
Marco Emilio Hincapié, President of Coljuegos, said gambling must remain “a safe space for entertainment” and emphasized the importance of preventive actions that support bettors' mental health. He also highlighted the role of self-diagnostic tools in helping players identify warning signs early.
The regulator confirmed it plans to consolidate data collected through these initiatives to develop a comprehensive Public Responsible Gambling Policy in 2026, aimed at raising compliance standards and strengthening coordination with operators and the health sector.
What did Argentina do?
In Argentina, Casino Buenos Aires reaffirmed its adherence to the Responsible Gambling Program in place since 2011. The operator recently obtained Level III Certification under the Responsible Gambling Standard granted by Lotería de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (LOTBA), reinforcing its internal controls, player assistance channels and staff training protocols.
As part of the events organized, on-site awareness actions included informational stands for players, distribution of educational materials on risk prevention, and guidance on self-exclusion and support channels.
The initiative also includes internal training sessions for staff to reinforce early-detection protocols and responsible-gaming procedures across its operations.
Colombia was the first country in Latin America to regulate online gambling at the national level in 2016, positioning Coljuegos as one of the region’s most established digital gaming regulators
