Brøndby IF launches permanent audio description for all home matches
The service was developed with Betano and the Danish Association of the Blind
The launch marks the first such initiative introduced on a permanent basis in the Nordics

Danish football club Brøndby IF has launched a permanent audio description service for all home matches, becoming the first club in Denmark and the Nordic region to introduce such a solution on an ongoing basis.

The service debuted during Brøndby’s 3F Superliga fixture against Sønderjyske on 23 February.

Developed in collaboration with Betano and the Danish Association of the Blind, the initiative is designed to improve matchday accessibility for blind and visually impaired supporters.

Accessible via radio.brondby.com, the platform provides real-time spoken narration of on-pitch action and surrounding stadium atmosphere. A specially trained commentator delivers detailed descriptions of play, player movements and visual elements, enabling fans to follow matches both inside the stadium and remotely.

Supporters attending games at Brøndby Stadium can listen through their own smartphones and headphones, while at-home users can synchronise the commentary with live television broadcasts.

Club representatives described the move as part of a broader ambition to remove barriers and strengthen inclusion within the fan community.

Diana Stentoft, National Chair of the Danish Association of the Blind, also welcomed the initiative, stating: “Audio description is about equal access to the community, and it means that even more people can experience football – including those who cannot follow the game visually.

“Audio description makes a significant difference for blind and visually impaired people, as they are no longer dependent on random radio excerpts or constantly asking others what is happening on the pitch. We are therefore pleased that Brøndby IF is offering audio description at its home matches and thereby improving the opportunity for blind and severely visually impaired fans to follow the club’s games.”

The technical solution is supplied by German company Mycrocast, which provides similar services to several Bundesliga clubs and Dutch side Ajax.

The lead commentator for Brøndby’s broadcasts will be Selver Elezovic, joined at home fixtures by former Brøndby player Joel Kabongo.

While primarily aimed at visually impaired supporters, the club noted that the service may also benefit fans unable to attend matches in person, extending engagement beyond the stadium environment.

The initiative adds to a range of community-focused projects Betano has supported across its markets, including sponsorship of breast cancer screening charity Laço Rosa in Brazil and a women's fitness programme in São Paulo.

Good to know

The audio solution is powered by Mycrocast, whose technology is already used by clubs in Germany’s Bundesliga and by Ajax in the Netherlands
