The Gambling Commission has suspended the operating licence of Spribe OÜ.

Spribe was operating under a Gambling Software licence, but the Gambling Commission told the company that it needed a hosting licence.

Spribe created the world-popular crash game, Aviator, which has 60 million players worldwide.

Although the two licences are very similar, a gambling software business may need a hosting licence if it hosts games on its own servers that customers from multiple operators can access at the same time.

The Gambling Commission defended this decision, explaining that it was "necessary on grounds of suitability" and was "due to serious non-compliance with the hosting requirements of our licensing framework."

The suspension is effective immediately and the regulator has put the onus on Spribe to notify any parties affected by this decision and to ensure that all operations are stopped in line with the licence suspension.

*Update 31/10/25

As part of an official statement released via Spribe’s LinkedIn – the company has specified following: “Dear Partners, as you may be aware, the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) announced the temporary suspension of Spribe’s Remote Operating License on October 30. We acknowledge the UKGC's announcement and are taking this matter extremely seriously. We are working diligently to resolve the issue as swiftly as possible.

“Spribe has held a remote operating license in the UK market since late 2020 and has complied with all its terms, including annual audits, regulatory returns, and transparent communication with the UKGC regarding any questions or concerns throughout all these years. It only came to our attention last week from the UKGC that, due to our technical setup, we need to add a hosting license to our existing one.

“Until we obtain this licence, the Commission, at its discretion, opted to suspend our current remote operating license. We are taking all necessary steps to comply with the Commission's requirements and expect to reinstate the delivery of Aviator to the UK market in the upcoming month.”
