The Hong Kong Jockey Club said it has provided nearly HK$6.7bn over the past decade to support sports development at both elite and community levels, reaffirming its long-term commitment to advancing Hong Kong’s sporting landscape.
At this year’s Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Day, held at Sha Tin Racecourse and attended by more than 200 charity and community representatives, the Club said it will continue working alongside the HKSAR Government to promote sports participation, enhance professionalism and strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a hub for major international sporting events.
Club Chairman Martin Liao described horse racing as a symbol of the city’s prosperity and stability under One Country, Two Systems, adding that sports remain central to the Club’s charitable mission. In the last financial year alone, the Club contributed HK$39.1bn to society, including HK$9.0bn in approved charity donations.
Looking ahead, the Club plans to deepen community engagement through continued support of multiple “M” Mark events as an Official Community Partner, broadening access to sports experiences, including among underprivileged groups. It will also introduce new initiatives such as “Racing with Rugby” to amplify the economic and international impact of major events staged in Hong Kong.
Beyond flagship competitions, the Club will expand development efforts in equestrian, football, basketball, golf and rugby, while strengthening governance and management standards across sports organizations to foster sustainable growth.
Sports development remains one of the Club’s key focus areas, with long-running programs such as JC Fit City, JC Project MuSE and the Jockey Club HKFA Football Development Programme promoting physical activity, youth engagement and social inclusion across the community.
The Club is Hong Kong’s largest single taxpayer and one of the largest charity donors in Asia
