Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defense Minister Dong Jun in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
This was part of an initiative to deepen bilateral ties and co-operation between the countries.
During the meeting, the three discussed several key points of interest that are affecting both Cambodia and China.
This included the impact of online gambling and telecom fraud that has swept across the region.
Earlier this year, Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng ordered a stricter campaign against online scams and illegal gambling activities across the capital’s 14 districts in relation to cybercrime.
Since then, over 80% of these scam centres have been closed down through raids in over 250 locations.
At the start of April, more than 200 foreign nationals were arrested and accused of being involved in online scam centres. Of these, 93 were believed to be Chinese.
Wang responded to this by saying that both countries should work together to eradicate cross-border online gambling scams and uphold fairness and justice in the process.
The politicians also discussed several other matters, including clean energy, agriculture, infrastructure and talent cultivation.
Wang commented that both sides should maintain high levels of communication and jointly promote the construction of the "Industrial Development Corridor" and the "Fish and Rice Corridor," to help Cambodia increase its capacity for independent development.
There were also talks around the Cambodia-Thailand conflict, with hopes that China will play a greater role in facilitating peace talks between the two nations.
Not only is China willing to create more opportunities for communication with Cambodia, but also willing to broker direct dialogue between officials in Cambodia and Thailand.
This is part of the "2+2" strategic dialogue mechanism that marks a transition towards more structured security measures between the countries
