Santa Fe government launches free app to block betting and restrict digital access for minors
System links parent and child devices, allowing remote control of apps and websites
Tool uses a pre-approved “whitelist” of safe sites rather than manual blocking

The government of Argentina’s Santa Fe province has launched a new mobile application designed to restrict minors’ access to online betting platforms and other digital content, as part of efforts to address concerns around youth exposure to gambling.

The app, called StopApuestas (“Stop Gambling”), is available for both Android and iOS and can be used nationwide. It operates through a dual-device system, requiring installation on both the parent or guardian’s phone and the child’s device.

Once linked, the adult user can control which websites, apps and services are accessible.

Unlike traditional parental control tools, the system is based on a “whitelist” model. Instead of blocking harmful content individually, it only allows access to a set of pre-approved websites verified by provincial authorities.

These include educational platforms and commonly used domains within Argentina’s school system. Any site not included is automatically restricted, including online betting platforms.

Parents can also request the addition of new websites through the app, subject to review. In parallel, the tool enables selective blocking of apps, allowing families to restrict access to social media, gaming, messaging or streaming services depending on their preferences.

The system is activated after a digital identity verification process known as ID Ciudadana, which links devices under the responsibility of a registered adult. Authorities said the approach is intended to simplify oversight while ensuring a higher level of control over minors’ online activity.

Officials positioned the app as a practical response to rising concerns over underage gambling, digital safety and early exposure to potentially harmful content.
