Globo’s involvement in Brazil’s gambling industry has taken another step forward after Boa Lion, a company backed by the media giant, acquired Bingão do Brasil.
The bingo business is linked to Brazilian television presenter Luciano Huck.
The transaction was submitted to Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade) and received its approval, according to regulatory filings.
Boa Lion is the joint venture behind BetMGM’s Brazilian operation, which launched in partnership with MGM Resorts and holds authorization to operate in the country’s regulated fixed-odds betting market.
The acquisition therefore broadens Globo’s presence beyond sports betting and into other gaming-related segments.
Huck’s interest in Bingão do Brasil was held through investment company L.Eva Participações. The negotiations were reportedly conducted by his business partner Antonio Alberto Gouvêa Vieira Filho. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition arrives as Brazil continues to debate the future of land-based gambling. However, Boa Lion told regulators the transaction is not connected to legislation currently under consideration in the Senate that would legalize casinos, bingo halls and the national lottery-style game jogo do bicho.
The bill, which has circulated in Congress for decades, cleared the Senate’s Constitution and Justice Committee in 2024 but remains awaiting further votes.
Corporate filings also show Bingão do Brasil reduced its registered capital from BR30m ($5.8m) to BR8m following a shareholder-approved decision in May. The company does not appear among the operators that applied for federal betting licenses through the Ministry of Finance.
Globo recently signed Betano, Superbet and BetMGM as official betting sponsors of its FIFA World Cup coverage
