Entain has officially entered Alberta’s newly regulated online gambling market, bringing three of its brands – Sports Interaction, BetMGM and PartyCasino – to Canada's second regulated provincial iGaming jurisdiction.

The operator confirmed the launch in a post on LinkedIn, describing the move as another milestone following its experience in Ontario, which became Canada's first open commercial online gambling market in 2022.

The expansion follows Alberta's regulated market launch on 13 July, ending the government-run PlayAlberta platform's exclusive position by allowing licensed private operators to compete alongside it.

Entain joins a growing list of major brands now active in the province, including FanDuel, DraftKings, bet365, Caesars Sportsbook and BetRivers.

Earlier this week, Entain also announced that Sports Interaction and PartyCasino had transitioned into Alberta after receiving approval from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC).

Sports Interaction has been a fixture of the Canadian betting market since 1997, while PartyCasino offers a portfolio of more than 3,000 online casino games, including slots and live dealer titles.

BetMGM also forms part of Entain's Alberta offering through its joint venture with MGM Resorts.

Entain's Head of Canada, Shir Magen, previously said the company intends to combine its global technology with local market knowledge to deliver products tailored specifically for Alberta players.

Alberta's regulatory model separates oversight between the AGLC, which licenses operators and suppliers, and the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC), which manages commercial agreements and ongoing operational oversight.

The province hopes the regulated framework will encourage players to migrate from offshore platforms, with authorities estimating that around 70% of Alberta's online gambling activity previously took place with unregulated operators.

Good to know

Alberta's regulated framework includes mandatory responsible gambling tools, including deposit, loss and time limits, as well as a centralised self-exclusion program covering online gambling, land-based casinos and racing entertainment centres
