The Minister of Public Security ordered intensified nationwide enforcement efforts

Laos has intensified its campaign against cybercrime and illegal online gambling after the country's Minister of Public Security personally inspected enforcement operations carried out by a ministry-level special task force in Vientiane Capital.

Lt. Gen. Vanthong Kongmany visited operations in Lakhin and Houayhom villages in Sikhottabong District, where officers executed coordinated raids targeting suspected cybercrime activities. Authorities arrested two suspects and confiscated equipment believed to have been used in illegal operations, including laptops, mobile SIM cards, SIM boxes, internet transmission and receiving devices, power storage units and other related hardware.

Following the raids, the minister praised the task force for its investigative work and instructed officers to preserve all seized items as evidence for future legal proceedings. He also called for continued efforts to uncover hidden cybercrime operations, online gambling activities and other related offenses across the country.

Vanthong stressed that law enforcement agencies must remain vigilant and strengthen enforcement to safeguard public security, maintain social order and protect the interests of the public.

The latest operation comes as regional governments increase cooperation against transnational cybercrime networks operating across Southeast Asia.

Earlier this year, South Korea's National Police Agency launched a training program for investigators from Laos and Cambodia under its "K-Police Wave" initiative. The program provides instruction in digital forensics, cryptocurrency transaction monitoring, online gambling investigations and international law enforcement cooperation, aiming to strengthen cross-border intelligence sharing and fugitive tracking.

The initiative reflects growing concern over organized criminal groups operating online scam compounds and illegal gambling networks throughout the region. Authorities have also stepped up efforts to monitor cryptocurrency transactions linked to gambling and fraud as digital payment methods become increasingly common.
