Crown Perth reaches 40 years, tracing its growth from Australia’s largest casino to a multi-facility integrated resort
The milestone emphasises the property’s role in the local economy and its long-serving team members

Crown Perth is marking 40 years since opening, highlighting its evolution in the entertainment and hospitality sector in Western Australia. The property began as Burswood Island Casino in 1985 and has expanded over the past four decades.

The resort now includes three hotels, including Crown Towers, Australia’s only Forbes Five Star hotel. Facilities also include more than 30 restaurants and bars, Crown Theatre and convention spaces.

The workforce has grown from around 1,000 team members at opening to more than 5,000, making Crown Perth the largest single-site employer in Western Australia. Eight employees who started in 1985 are still employed at the property, with another dozen joining in 1986.

Crown Resorts returned to profitability for the first time in five years, posting a net profit after tax of AU$142m (US$93.7m) for FY25, while Crown Perth contributes about AU$1.2bn annually to the Western Australian economy and nearly AU$5bn nationally through its operations and partnerships with local suppliers.

To mark the 40th anniversary, the property will host a photographic exhibition on the Burswood Peninsula, pay tribute to long-serving employees, and bury a time capsule containing items from 1985 and 2025, to be opened in 2065.

Brian Pereira, Crown Perth CEO, stated: “Anyone who has worked at Crown will tell you it is the people who make the place so special and that rings true today.”

In October 2025, Crown Perth announced it would enter a new era of cashless slots, implementing card-only play across all electronic gaming machines from 1 December 2025. In November 2025, Crown Resorts was announced as the official title partner of the Men’s Australian Open.
