DraftKings has announced that its Albertan launch next week will be commemorated with numerous celebratory activation events as the province enters its regulated era.
Indeed, the operator is set to host a World Cup watching party alongside a volunteer event which will see DraftKings employees volunteer with Food Banks Alberta. The company has also pledged a $150,000 donation to the charity, similarly to FanDuel, which announced an $80,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross ahead of its own Albertan launch this week.
The launch of sports betting and online gambling in Alberta has been in the works for over two years since Minister Dale Nally first announced plans to regulate at the Canadian Gaming Summit in 2024. As of June 1, the province confirmed 35 online gambling applications had been submitted, with numerous sports betting operators having also confirmed plans to enter the region.
Now, from Monday, players in the region will be able to access DraftKings’ sports betting offerings, as well as online casino offerings via Golden Nugget Online Gaming and the DraftKings Casino.
Speaking on this update, Greg Karamitis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sports at DraftKings, said: “We’re thrilled to launch DraftKings Sportsbook and DraftKings Casino, as well as Golden Nugget Online Gaming in Alberta and continue expanding our presence in Canada.
“Alberta is home to a passionate sports fan base, and we’re excited to bring customers across the province our industry-leading sports betting and online casino experiences. Launching during one of the biggest moments in global sports, with the World Cup taking place across North America, makes this an especially exciting time to welcome Albertans to DraftKings.”
This launch makes Alberta the 34th North American jurisdiction in which DraftKings is now regulated
