Clube Náutico has begun a major infrastructure upgrade at its historic Aflitos stadium, with works starting this week as part of a sponsorship agreement with Esportes da Sorte.
The project centres on the modernization of the stadium’s lighting system, replacing outdated reflectors with LED technology and automation.
The upgrade is expected to deliver more than 650 lux of illumination, roughly four times the current capacity, improving both match conditions and broadcast quality.
The investment forms part of the club’s naming rights agreement, which has rebranded the venue as Estádio Esportes da Sorte Aflitos. The deal includes an initial commitment of BR9.6m, with the potential to reach BR12.5m depending on sporting performance milestones such as promotion or titles.
According to Davi Oliveira, head of football at Esportes da Sorte, the project represents the first tangible step in a broader partnership focused on long-term development.
“It is the first concrete move within our partnership, showing that the naming rights come with investment and commitment to the stadium’s evolution,” he said.
For the club, the upgrade is both operational and strategic. Director Luciano Leonídio described the initiative as a “structuring project” that enhances infrastructure, improves the fan experience and supports better conditions for players and broadcasters.
Opened in 1939, the stadium is one of Brazil’s most traditional football venues. Now, at 86 years old, it is undergoing one of its most significant technological updates to meet requirements set by the Brazilian Football Confederation for Série B competition.
Construction has been scheduled to coincide with a run of away fixtures, allowing work to progress without disrupting matches. The upgraded system is expected to be unveiled in early May during a home fixture against América-MG.
