The Association of Parents of Children with Oncological Conditions (APCAO) has announced the official launch of the multidisciplinary guide “Medical Recovery of Children with Malignant Haematological Conditions,” a reference resource for paediatric oncology care in Romania developed with support from the Kaizen Foundation.
The guide is a national first, bringing together medical expertise and practical recovery approaches in a single structured resource designed to support healthcare professionals working with paediatric onco-haematological patients.
Structured into several sections, it covers treatment-related complications (neurological, muscular and skeletal), integrated patient assessment methodologies, recovery planning and physiotherapy programmes, post-treatment recovery and long-term reintegration, as well as psychological assessment and support.
It will be distributed free of charge by APCAO to medical institutions and healthcare professionals across Romania, ensuring wide access and practical use in clinical settings.
APCAO President Amalia Năstase stated: “This guide responds to a real and urgent need, identified after years of working closely with children diagnosed with cancer and their families. Beyond treatment, recovery and quality of life are essential - and until now, there has not been a complete multidisciplinary resource in Romania to support this process. It is not just a medical tool, but a step forward in the way we approach care, dignity and long-term outcomes for these children.”
The development of the guideline was made possible by support from the Kaizen Foundation as part of a broader partnership focused on improving both medical outcomes and quality of life for paediatric oncology patients.
The initiative is part of a wider collaboration (2025–2026) between APCAO and the Kaizen Foundation
